Tips Before You Go
Nevada Mom, Megan goes tree cutting every year with her family! It is one of their favorite traditions. She is sharing some of her tips with us.
- Buy your permit BEFORE you go
- Pack lots of snacks
- Wear good hiking shoes and/or snow boots
- Dress in layers, the weather is unpredictable and can be cold up in the mountains and shade
- Have a map of designated cutting areas (they can change each year)
- Bring straps to tie the tree down securely
- Pack a tape measure. They have height limits and trees can be hard to gauge
- Use a chainsaw if possible
- After you cut your tree have your permit ON the tree as you are leaving
