Benefits of Co2 Laser Resurfacing

CO2 laser resurfacing offers a range of benefits for individuals, here are 8 key benefits of CO2 laser resurfacing:

Wrinkle Reduction

CO2 laser resurfacing effectively targets fine lines and wrinkles, especially those caused by sun damage and aging. The laser energy stimulates collagen production, leading to smoother and tighter skin, ultimately reducing the appearance of wrinkles.

Skin Texture Improvement

The laser treatment precisely removes damaged outer layers of the skin, encouraging the growth of new skin cells. This process helps improve skin texture by reducing roughness, unevenness, and the appearance of acne scars and other surface imperfections.

Scar Revision

CO2 laser resurfacing can significantly improve the appearance of scars, including acne scars, surgical scars, and traumatic scars. The laser’s energy breaks down scar tissue and stimulates collagen remodeling, leading to a smoother and more even skin surface.

Hyperpigmentation Reduction

The laser’s targeted energy can effectively lighten areas of hyperpigmentation, such as sunspots, age spots, and melasma. It breaks down excessive melanin in the skin, promoting a more even skin tone and reducing the visibility of pigmented spots.

Skin Tightening

CO2 laser resurfacing stimulates the production of collagen and elastin fibers, which contribute to skin elasticity and firmness. The heat generated by the laser energy causes collagen contraction, resulting in improved skin tightness and a more youthful appearance.

Overall Skin Rejuvenation

By removing damaged layers of the skin and promoting collagen production, CO2 laser resurfacing provides a comprehensive rejuvenation effect. It can address multiple signs of aging, sun damage, and skin irregularities, resulting in a refreshed and revitalized complexion.

Customizable Treatment

CO2 laser resurfacing can be customized to suit individual needs and concerns. The intensity and depth of the laser treatment can be adjusted based on the specific skin condition being treated, ensuring optimal results with minimal risk.

Long-lasting Results

The effects of CO2 laser resurfacing can last for a significant period. Although the procedure does not stop the natural aging process, it can provide long-lasting improvements in skin texture, tone, and overall appearance.

Preparing for the Procedure

Prior to the CO2 laser resurfacing, Dr. Dayan provided detailed preoperative instructions. These instructions included guidelines for sun exposure avoidance, discontinuation of certain skincare products, and any necessary medication adjustments. Following these instructions is essential for optimal healing and results.

The Procedure

Under Dr. Dayan’s expertise, the CO2 laser resurfacing procedure was performed with precision and care. Throughout the process, he ensured my comfort and exhibited remarkable attention to detail.

The treatment was relatively quick, and any expected discomfort was lessened by the use of numbing agents and cooling methods administered by Dr. Dayan. Overall, I would say the procedure was a 5-6 on pain level but it is a quick manageable procedure!

Post-Treatment Care

It’s important to note that the healing process following CO2 laser resurfacing is unique to each individual. Dr. Dayan and his team provided me with comprehensive postoperative care instructions, including the application of topical ointments, sun protection measures, and a gentle skincare routine.

Additionally, they scheduled regular follow-up appointments to monitor my progress and address any concerns.

Tips for Post-Care: Based on my personal experience, here are some helpful tips for the post-care period following CO2 laser resurfacing (as always follow the instructions from your provider):

  1. Handheld Fan: To alleviate the initial post-treatment heat sensation, a handheld fan can provide soothing relief during the first few hours after the procedure.
  2. Sleeping Elevated: Sleeping propped up with pillows behind you can reduce swelling. Consider covering your pillow with an old pillowcase to protect it from any ointments.
  3. Aquaphor: Apply Aquaphor approximately three to four times a day for the first five days. Using a mask applicator can make the application process easier and ensure cleanliness.
  4. Clean Skin Club: I prefer to use Clean Skin Club Towels instead of cotton washcloths.  They absorb great and don’t harbor bacteria like wash cloths do.
  5. Vinegar Soaks: This for me was optional but helpful, vinegar soaks can provide relief during the first three days. Mix one teaspoon of vinegar with one cup of cold filtered water, saturate clean skin cloths, and apply to the skin for 10 minutes. Follow with Aquaphor.
  6. Keep Busy at Home: Plan to stay at home during the initial healing period. Utilize this time to organize your surroundings and engage in activities that don’t require exposure to the sun.
  7. Trust the Process: The peak of skin recovery typically occurs around 48-72 hours after the procedure. After this period, the skin will gradually flake off, indicating progress. Trust in the healing process and avoid rushing or expecting immediate results.
  8. After five days, I discontinued using Aquaphor and transitioned to Cetaphil. I relied on Cetaphil for the subsequent five days, until I reintroduced my trusted gentle cleanser from SkinBetter into my skincare routine.

Cost

The average cost for CO2 laser resurfacing is $3,000-$4,000 depending on the area being treated and depth.  The reason behind its value lies in its effectiveness. This treatment goes beyond just the surface-level, reaching deep into the skin to address a wide range of concerns.

It effectively tackles fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and sun damage, revealing smoother and more youthful-looking skin. Its allows for targeted treatment, minimizing downtime and maximizing results.

With CO2 laser resurfacing, you can achieve significant and long-lasting improvements in your skin’s texture and appearance in just 1 treatment typically, making it a cost-effective choice for those seeking remarkable transformations.

Protect Your Skin

Strictly avoid sun exposure for the first week after CO2 laser resurfacing. Incorporate diligent sunscreen usage and sun protection measures into your routine when outdoors.

Patience is Key

The healing journey following CO2 laser resurfacing requires patience. Although noticeable improvements can be observed in the initial weeks, complete skin rejuvenation may take several months.

Dr. Dayan emphasizes the importance of realistic expectations and advises against rushing the healing process!

My Skin 2 Weeks Post Co2 Laser Treatment

2 weeks post co2 laser

I am now 2 weeks post Co2 Laser Resurfacing.  Here are some changes I have noticed in my skin so far!

Smoother Texture

I notice that my skin has already improved in texture, with reduced roughness and fine lines.

Reduced Pigmentation

The pigmentation around my lower cheeks has faded and I can notice a visible lightening of my sun spots.

Improved Tone and Evenness

Overall, my skin tone appears to be more even, with a reduction in redness, blotchiness, or discoloration.

Collagen Stimulation

The CO2 laser treatment stimulates collagen production, and after two weeks, I am starting to notice the initial signs of improved skin elasticity and firmness.

Continued Healing

It’s important to note that while most of the visible healing occurs within the first two weeks, skin will continue to heal and improve over the following weeks and months!

That is why it is so important  to follow the aftercare instructions and protect your skin from sun exposure during this time.

Maintaining Long-Term Results

To ensure the longevity of the results achieved through CO2 laser resurfacing, Dr. Dayan recommended maintaining a healthy lifestyle, practicing diligent sun protection, and following a suitable skincare regimen.

I plan on sticking to these habits, so I can maximize the benefits of the procedure and maintain healthier, more youthful-looking skin.
