One of our favorite annual events, Construction vs. Cancer, is back again! Every fall this FREE family-friendly event attracts thousands of families to come out and support the American Cancer Society.
Construction vs. Cancer and the Las Vegas construction industry team up for a “unique fundraising event that puts kids in the operator’s seat of construction equipment! This event benefits the American Cancer Society and provides a festive, carnival-like atmosphere amongst construction equipment and funds childhood cancer research and services.”
This is a FREE event typically held within the first two weeks of November. Here’s everything you need to know about Construction vs. Cancer from a mom’s point of view.

What You Can Expect
The Junior Operator attendees will have the chance to sit in the driver’s seat and operate various types of machinery under supervision. They’ll be able to try their hands at backhoes, diggers, and excavators. In addition, the kids can climb the Scaffolding Lookout Tower, dig in the Giant Sandbox, win prizes, and contribute to the construction of the Wall of Hope art project.
The funds raised from this event will directly support childhood cancer research, education, advocacy, and services, while also promoting efforts to prevent cancer that could reduce the risk for children in the future. Cancer is a tough opponent at any age, but its impact on children is especially heartbreaking.
Pros and Cons of Attending Construction vs. Cancer
Pros
- Support a great cause
- So many activities for all ages
Cons
- Be prepared for no shade. The event is in a parking lot, so you’ll want to wear a hat or go early in the morning.
- Not a lot of food or drink options
- It gets BUSY around 11:30-12
Tips For Your Visit
- Wear closed-toed shoes – you’re outside, there is lots of walking and a lot of activities are near dirt.
- Wear a hat / sunscreen – there’s no shade!
- Bring water, snacks, and eat before or after as there are not many if any food options. Last year Dig It Coffee was there and a handful of food trucks.
- Bring a compact stroller. There are lots of freebies being handed out that are easier to toss in a bag or bottom of the stroller. I would avoid large strollers if you plan on being near the bounce house areas as it’s pretty tight, but you can still bring them if you’d like!
