CABIN FEVER

The Wilbur D. May Arboretum & Botanical Garden is excited to announce Cabin Fever!

January 6th & 20th, and February 3rd & 17th from 10am-11am in the Ranch House for a variety of winter themed programs for kids ages 4-10. Donation of $3 per session or $15 for the whole series, paid by cash or check on the day of the program. Come to the garden and learn about how winter affects the world around them. PBR – VELOCITY TOUR

Date: January 7 – 8

Location: Reno Events Center

Enjoy some professional bull riding!  This is a fun event for the entire family.  You can grab tickets for 1 or both days! The best bull riders take on the toughest bulls at the Reno Events Center in downtown Reno.

HANDS ON! SECOND SATURDAY

Date: January 8th (Second Saturday of each month), 10am – 4pm

Location: Nevada Museum of Art, 160 West Liberty, Reno, Nevada 89501

YOUTH WILDLIFE CONSERVATION EXPERIENCE

Date: Jan 15, 202110am-4pm

Location: Convention Center, Reno, NV

This FREE event is designed to excite and inspire the next generation of outdoor enthusiasts. Hands-on stations for youth in a variety of different fields. Stations include duck calling, rock climbing wall, wild sheep conservation, nature crafts, fly tying, bird identification, many archery stations, leave no trace ethics, pellet gun and BB gun ranges, and so much more.

DINO AND DRAGON STROLL

Date: January 22-23, Saturday (10:00a.m. – 5:00p.m., Sunday – 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.)

Location: Reno-Sparks Convention Center

During Dino & Dragon Stroll, you will enjoy prehistoric dinosaurs from the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods, and be surrounded by some fantastical dragons throughout!

Dino & Dragon Stroll is an interactive event allowing guests to walk through this realistic and memorable indoor experience.

2022 RENO WOMEN’S MARCH

Date:January 22, 11am-2pm

Location: Believe Sign, Downtown Reno

The Women’s March goal is to help each other discover different ways to be a vehicle for change — whether it’s volunteering, running for office, advocating for policy, or how to better talk to our neighbors. ​​11:00 – Noon: Gather at the BELIEVE Plaza and enjoy musical performances

Noon: Keynote Speakers

12:15: March to the Downtown Library

12:30 – 2:00: Learn more about what you can do to make the world a better place by learning from our speakers and getting to know local community organizations at our What Can I Do non-profit networking event.

TODDLER TIME AT GALENA CREEK

Date: January 20th, 12pm

Location: Galena Creek Visitor Center, 18250 Mount Rose Highway, Reno, NV

Every third Thursday of the month, join us at 12:00pm for knee-high nature education that includes stories, activities, crafts, and outdoor exploration. $5 Suggested Donation. Please call ahead to confirm!

HOME SCHOOL FIELD STUDY

Date: January 21st 10am

Location: Galena Creek Visitor Center, 18250 Mount Rose Highway, Reno, NV

Every third Friday of the month from September-May at 10am, Nevada homeschool students are invited to join us for a two-hour outdoor discovery-based STEM education field study. Email us at visitorcenter@thegreatbasininstitute.org for more information.

SPARKS

3RD THURSDAYS

Date: December 16 from 4-9pm (third Thursday of every month)

Location: Victorian Square

This includes good food, cold drinks, live entertainment, crafts, chef demos, movies on the big screen and all the art you can handle! Downtown Sparks is the place to be this and every 3rd Thursday of the month, all year round!

MAKER FAMILY MEET-UP

Date: Every Thursday from 3:30-5:30pm

Location: The Generator, 2450 Oddie Blvd Sparks, NV 89431

Drop-in every Thursday afternoon from 3:30-5:30 for the Maker Family Meetup! This is a pay-what-you-can drop-in art experience for kids and their families. Each week will be a different art activity as well as fun art activation stations for your child(ren) to explore! This is a fun, hands-on, and lowkey place for kids to express their creativity and check out our maker space.

CARSON CITY

SATURDAY NIGHT STAR PARTIES

Date: January 1st and 29th from 7:30-9:30pm

The Jack C Davis Observatory hosts free star parties on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month year-round, starting at 7:30 p.m. (weather permitting).

2022 GUIDED SNOWSHOEING TRIPS

Date: January 1, 4, 10, 22 (times vary)

Location: Locations vary

Snowshoes are available and included in registration. Registration is $30 per date. Transportation is included. All trips will meet at the Carson City MAC (1860 Russell Way). You can choose to drive yourself if preferred. Register at http://carson.org/ccpr.

SILVER SADDLE RANCH HISTORICAL TOURS

Date: January 1st from 1-2pm

Location: 4901 Carson River Road, Carson City, NV

Join the Carson City Park Rangers and the Friends of Silver Saddle Ranch for a historical tour of Silver Saddle Ranch! Trail is considered “easy” according to the IMBA and will be less than a half-mile. This program is focused more on historical content than hiking adventure.

Kacey received her bachelor's in Psychology while cheering for the University of Oregon. They moved to Reno in 2014 and have loved it ever since. She is a dedicated homeschooling mother to her three children.

She serves on the hospital board for Northern Nevada Health Systems and is passionate about her community.
