Mt. Charleston Lodge kid-friendly things to do during the holidays in Las Vegas

Take a Trip to Mt. Charleston

Date: Year-round

Location: 1650 South Pavilion Center Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89135

Cost: Free

One of my favorite kid-friendly things to do during the holidays in Las Vegas! It is with a heavy heart that we learned in mid-September 2021 that the famous landmark, Mount Charleston Lodge had burnt down. However, even though the lodge is not currently available to visit, a trip to Mt. Charleston is just what the doctor ordered for ANY family.

You can still book a cabin up in Mt. Charleston or just make an afternoon of this wonderful place. There are over 50 miles of maintained trails that wind through the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area, along with 4 campgrounds, 7 picnic areas, and remote areas for dispersed camping.

Snowshoeing, sledding, building snowmen, making snow angels, and winter wildlife watching are just a few of the things you can do in the winter. Here are parking and snow play areas. Note – parking is limited!

  • Foxtail Group Picnic Area (open with 12″ or more of snow, reservations will be required)
  • Old Mill Picnic Area (Closed, will open for snow play with enough snow)
  • Kyle Canyon Picnic Area
  • Sawmill Picnic Area
  • Deer Creek Picnic Area
  • Lee Canyon Ski & Snowboard Resort (Reservations REQUIRED for activities and parking)

Please note many areas may be closed due to 2023 flooding, so always confirm prior to your visit. Be sure to check the weather before you go as a little snow might appear out of nowhere!

Where will the holidays take you?

There are so many kid-friendly things to do during the holidays in Las Vegas and I’ve only been able to touch on a handful of my favorites, but it is a great start especially if you are looking to try something new this year.

As you begin to enjoy the holiday season, we recommend booking reservations early to beat the crowds. The closer it gets to Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc., the busier – especially when winter break begins for the kiddos.

Don’t forget to bring some snacks, water, and a jacket with you depending on your holiday adventure.
