Meet Our Contributor, Maureen Lowe

Did you know that we have a whole army behind Nevada Moms? We may be small, but we are MIGHTY! Nevada Moms would be nothing without our AMAZING contributors (some who have been with us since the very beginning).

Meet Maureen Lowe

Meet our contributor, Maureen Lowe, who often shares about her love for nature, low-waste living, and her love for art.

Maureen has been a contributor for Nevada Moms since the very beginning. Our first contributor’s joined us in February 2019, about 4-5 months after we launched!

You can check out her first post, Kid-Friendly Hiking Trails in Reno (and one of our most viewed!).

Are you a mom?

I’m a proud mom to a 3-year-old active and inquisitive little boy!

What is the best piece of advice you can give to a new parent?

My best piece of advice is to never forget the things that you loved to do before your baby was born. Make time for your personal passions as a new parent and beyond.

Learn to modify those things at a new pace. Be creative with your solutions for finding time to pursue them.

Share one of your most embarrassing mom moments?

When my son was an infant, I was rolling him in his stroller and a passerby asked me “What a cutie!, how old is your baby?” I responded with “Oh, she’s 4 years old this month… she’s a rescue dog, part miniature pinscher…” talking about my dog Cate on her leash.

I was so new to motherhood I didn’t even realize the person was asking me about my human baby in the stroller!

What does the perfect “me day” look like?

This summer I started horseback riding after a 20-year hiatus. The perfect morning for me is coffee, Skyping with my bestie, and having a riding lesson where I can focus solely on my riding, being on horseback, and feeling the wind in my face.

Why do you enjoy writing for Nevada Moms and what is your favorite post you’ve written?

I enjoy writing for Nevada Moms because it’s a platform that truly helped me when I first moved to Reno. I like connecting with other active, curious, and adventurous moms.

I love to write and take photos. It’s especially great as a mom to a baby (and now a toddler) to share tips, resources, and personal stories.

One of my favorite posts I’ve written is Trails to Hike in North Lake Tahoe and Truckee. As a newer resident to Reno, I am always looking for a new trail or area to explore that is kid-friendly.

As soon as my son could walk, we were out hiking. The beauty of the sierras that surround us is unmatched. There is no better way to spend an early weekend morning with the family!

Interested in becoming a contributor?

We are always looking for awesome new contributors to add to our team! After all, we couldn’t do this without amazing mamas, like Maureen Lowe, who share their voices with our community.

We like articles that introduce new ideas and advance conversations around topics and trends that engage our readers–think op-ed rather than content marketing.

We appreciate articles that are centered around family life, being a parent, or starting a family.

While we do not add contributors all the time, if a spot opens out and we think you’ll be a good fit for us, we will reach out. Our contributors commit to volunteering their time to write 1 article/month for 12 months. You can learn more and apply here.
