Elko Art Festival

Date: Sept. 9 – 12

Location: Downtown Elko

Support the Elko Art Foundation during their annual Elko Art Festival. There will be new downtown murals where you can meet the artists. You’ll also be able to enjoy family and kids art bingo, kids trash can painting, community wall painting, wine walk and more!

Genoa

Genoa Candy Dance 

Dates: Sept. 25 & 26

Location: 2287 Main St, Genoa, NV

The Annual Genoa Candy Dance and Candy Dance Arts & Crafts Faire event is always scheduled for the last full weekend in September.

Activities include Genoa’s Famous Candy, Juried Arts & Crafts, Renowned Dinner & Dance, Festival Food Vendors, Mason’s Pancake Breakfast, FREE on-site Shuttle Bus, Children’s games. Fun for the whole family!

Reno

Free Children’s Books for International Literacy Day

Date: Sept 8 from 3pm – 4:30pm

Location: Women and Children’s Center of the Sierra

International Literacy Day is September 8th! We will be passing out FREE children’s books. Be sure to stop between 3pm – 4:30pm to pick up a FREE children’s book and start their home library.

Music in the Garden (Picnic)

Date: Sept 11 from 5:30-7:30pm, Doors open at 4:30pm

Location: May Arboretum

Music in the Garden is a casual, family-friendly, fun atmosphere! A variety of food and drink options may be available through local food trucks. The food trucks are subject to change.

Pack a picnic and bring a blanket or lawn chairs. (Chairs should be no taller than 36 inches)

You can even bring your own beverages, alcoholic or non-alcoholic – no glass bottles. Water is highly suggested. Be sure to dress for the weather and wear comfortable footwear.

Summer of Sunflowers

Date: Sept 11-25 from 10am-5pm, Daily

Location: Ferrari Farms,

Ready to pick your own sunflowers?? Visit Larry and the other animals. $2.00 entry fee, $1.00 – $1.50 per flower. Bring your own sheers.

Great Reno Balloon Race

Date: September 10 – 12, 3:30am – 11:00am

Location: Rancho San Rafael Park, 1595 N. Sierra St., Reno, NV

Reno Air Races

Date: Sept. 15 – 19

Location: 14501 Mt Anderson St, Reno, NV 89506

The 2021 STIHL National Championship Air Races returns to Reno! This event features head-to-head air racing at speeds that can exceed 500 mph!

Performances by the National Aviation Heritage Invitational, military displays, the STEM zone, STOL, an impressive variety of aviation exhibits, and more. Purchase your tickets ahead of time here.

Reno Aces Games

Grab your tickets and enjoy any of these games played at home (Reno) and root for our team!

Museum Day

Date: Sept 18th

Location: Varies depending on museum selection

Museum Day is an annual celebration of boundless curiosity hosted by Smithsonian magazine. Participating museums and cultural institutions across the country provide free entry to anyone presenting a Museum Day ticket.

Duck Race and Festival

Date: Sept 18 from 4-9pm

Location: Hawkins Amphitheatre at Bartley Regional Park

This year the Duck Race & Festival will be hosted at Hawkins Amphitheatre in Bartley Regional Park from 4-9pm on September 18th! During this family-friendly event there will be vendors, food trucks, a beer garden, games for the kids, pet adoptions, and more!

Garden Harvest Festival

Date: Sept 19 at 5pm

Location: Faith Lutheran, 2075 West 7th Street, Reno

Get ready for the annual Garden Harvest Festival. Because of the pandemic, masks are required. We will be both indoors and outdoors. Spaghetti feed, garden tours and a good time.

Street Vibrations Fall Rally

Date: Sept 23 from 2-10pm

Location: Eldorado Casino Downtown

It’s the last weekend of September. Everything is calm and tranquil. The sun shines, the birds sing, the Truckee river courses lazily between its banks. Then, almost imperceptibly, the streets of Reno begin to rumble. In the distance, small lights begin to glow. The noise gets louder, the lights become bigger, and slowly the phenomenon takes shape. It’s…STREET VIBRATIONS®.

Storytime LIVE!

Date: Sept 25 from 2-4pm

Location: Kiddie Academy of South Reno, 550 Maestro Drive, Reno

You’re invited to Kiddie Academy for Storytime LIVE!. Celebrate literacy and share a story together – with a special visit from the beloved Curious George.

Fall Harvest Festival

Date: Sept. 26 from 11:00am – 4:00pm

Location: Bartley Ranch Regional Park, 6000 Bartley Ranch Road

Family-friendly activities happening all day at Bartley Ranch to benefit Nevada Youth Empowerment Project.

Sparks

Nugget Rib Cook-off

Date: Sept. 1 – 6

Location: Victorian Square, 1100 Nugget Avenue, Sparks, Nevada 89431

Often referred to as the Super Bowl of rib competitions on the national BBQ competition circuit, the annual Labor Day Weekend event spans more than 6 city blocks in the heart of downtown Sparks, Nevada.

Maker Family Meet-Up

Date: Every Thursday from 10am-12pm (Sept 9, 16, 23, 30)

Location: The Generator, 2450 Oddie Blvd Sparks, NV 89431

Drop-in every Thursday afternoon from 10am-12pm for the Maker Family Meetup! This is a pay-what-you-can drop-in art experience for kids and their families.

Each week will be a different art activity as well as fun art activation stations for your child(ren) to explore! This is a fun, hands-on and lowkey place for kids to express their creativity and check out our maker space.

3rd Thursdays

Date: Sept. 16 from 4-9pm (third thursday of every month)

Location: Victorian Square

This includes good food, cold drinks, live entertainment, crafts, chef demos, movies on the big screen and all the art you can handle! Downtown Sparks is the place to be this and every 3rd Thursday of the month, all year round!

Fall Into the Holidays Craft Fair

Date: Sept 18

Location: 98 Richards Way, Sparks NV 89431

Join us for our inaugural Fall Into the Holidays Craft Fair. Over 50 artisans, vendors, activities, food trucks, and fun is included at no extra charge.

Proceeds for the event will benefit the City of Sparks Arts Fund and Sparks Parks & Recreation Leisure Without Limits programs for people with disabilities.

Kids Free Fishing Day

Date: Sept. 16th and 18th, 6am-11am

Location: Sparks Marina, 300 Howard Dr. Sparks, NV 89431

Join the Rotary club for Kids Free Fishing Day! Day 1 (September 16th) is designated for those with special needs and Day 2 (September 18th) is for all youth.

Virginia City

Camel and Ostrich Races

Date: Friday, Sept. 10 at 5 p.m. for Hot Camel Nights, Saturday, Sept. 11 at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m, and Sunday, Sept. 12 at 12 p.m.

Location: Virginia City Arena & Fairgrounds

This must-attend and family-friendly event feature jockeys precariously perched on their beasts as they maneuver the track at high speeds, aiming for a win among the cheering crowds.

Attendees can enjoy watching the hilarious camel, zebra, and ostrich races, on-site treats as well as camel rides between races for that once-in-a-lifetime photo op. We recommend pre-purchasing your tickets for $15 for adults and $12 for kids under 12 and seniors. Premium shaded tickets are $25.

UNR Football

Date: September 11th, 7:30pm

Location: McKay Stadium

Root for the Wolf Pack as they take on Idaho State.  Purchase your tickets here.

Kacey received her bachelor's in Psychology while cheering for the University of Oregon. They moved to Reno in 2014 and have loved it ever since. She is a dedicated homeschooling mother to her three children.

She serves on the hospital board for Northern Nevada Health Systems and is passionate about her community.

Kacey loves exploring with her family and finding family-friendly events and activities! A few of her favorite things include family adventures, traveling, working out, coffee, and dessert!
