You’ve been BOO’d! This festive holiday trend is such a fun way to celebrate the holiday and also treat a few neighbors! It is basically like a secret chain letter that gets you and your neighbors in the holiday spirit.
If you haven’t seen this trend come through your neighborhood yet, it might be time for you to be the first to introduce it. Here’s how it goes:
You place a basket of goodies on your neighbors porch, ring the doorbell (or don’t and let it be a surprise) and disappear before they open it.
They find and enjoy the goodies and carry on the chain to another neighbor! They have two nights to do so.
Once you have been BOO’d you are suppose to put a sign up on your front porch/window/door.
The options are pretty endless. You can fill your basket with items that fit your budget, Target, the Dollar Store or Walmart have great inexpensive Halloween-themed goodies! Get creative with your basket and with your sign.
You’ve Been BOO’d Signs
We’ve also created a free “You’ve Been BOO’d” printable that you can use to start You’ve Been BOO’d in your neighborhood. Want to make your own You’ve Been BOO’d signs? Here’s what ours says:
Hang the “We’ve Been BOO’d” sign on your door to let your neighbors know you’ve already participated.
You only have 48 hours, so don’t delay – create a goodie basket for TWO neighbors.
Make copies of the instructions (or go to http://bit.ly/nnmBOO to download & print)
Leave your BOO baskets on your neighbors doorstep and disappear like a ghost!
We’ve even heard of some people getting “BOOz’d” which if you ask me is a fun idea for adults or even in the office! The concept is the same, but when you throw in some adult beverages and include shot glasses or wine glasses – now that’s some BOOz’d we’d like to get!
If you’re late to the game, don’t worry – you can modify the Halloween-themed version for holidays throughout the year. Some other ideas we’ve seen done include You’ve Been Gobbled (Thanksgiving), You’ve Been Elfed (Christmas), or You’ve Been Egged (Easter).
Don’t forget to get your kids involved by picking the items out, filling and leaving the basket. Not only will they enjoy being sneaky like a ghost, this Halloween but it is also a great time to talk and teach about giving to others and being a good neighbor.
