How is it already almost time for fall break? It feels like the kids just started school and now they are ready for some time off.

The Northern Nevada Moms team has been working hard to find all the fall camps we could get our hands on just for you! Check back as we will update camps as they become available. Take a look at our ultimate list of fall break camps and activities for 2019!

This year Fall Break for the Washoe County School District is October 7-11.

Here are fall break camps to check out in Northern Nevada and the surrounding areas. Some of these camps require that you pack a lunch and or snacks to send with your child – so keep that in mind!

Great Basin Naturalists at Galena Fall Exploration Camp

Fall Exploration Camp provides educational fun and hands-on discovery of natural and cultural wonders of the forest, creeks, and pond at Galena Creek Recreation Area.

Early drop-off and late pick-up available. Fee is $195 for the week. Scholarships are available. You can register online or by calling (775) 849-4948. Visit the website for all the details.

Fall Break Camp Discovery at The Discovery Museum

There are camps for different age groups, from 1st through 4th grade – Ultimate Engineers (grades 1 – 2) and Robot Revolution (grades 3 – 4). Early drop-off and late pick-up are available for an additional fee. Financial assistance is available. For registration assistance, call (775) 398-5954.

Cost: $210 per week/members ; $230 per week/non-members

Sierra Nevada Basketball Fall Camp

Get fundamental instruction, footwork technique, shooting mechanics, and Footwork, shooting mechanics, ball handling, defensive technique, 3 vs 3 and 4 vs 4 Games, and team practice. For boys and girls.

Fall Creativity Camps at Arts for All Nevada

Two sessions are available for this fall camp. You can choose between a morning session (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.) or afternoon session (1 p.m. to 4 p.m.). 

Get creative through instruction in both the Visual Arts and Creative Moving/Drama.

Days/Times: October 7-11, 9am-12pm or 1pm-4pm

Ages: 6-10

Cost: $125/week

Sparks Parks & Rec Fall Break Programs

Active games, arts and crafts, board games, free play, swimming, skating, various field trips and group activities are planned for this full-day program. Daily sessions are from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. 

This year, Sparks has a new 4th and 5th-grade fall break program. Attendees will be able to enjoy the pool, ping pong, foosball, arts and crafts, active games, field trips and more. 

Drop-in is $48/day for Non-Residents and $40/day for residents.

Days/Times: October 7-11, 7am-6pm

Ages: Kindergarten – 3rd Grade ; 4th-5th Grade

Cost: $156/week for Non-Residents; $130/week for Sparks Residents

Fall Break Camps at the Nevada Museum of Art

Clay Camp

Instruction will include basic hand building, throwing on the wheel, and sculpture. Children will learn about the basics of pottery, glazing and the transformation of their pieces from the heat of the kiln.

Snack and materials are included.

Days/Times: October 7-11, 9am-12pm

Ages: 7-12

Cost: $185/week for Non-Members; $165/week for Members

Art Camp for Kids 

Children will have fun exploring a variety of art mediums in this fun and interactive camp. Over this five-day camp, participants will have the opportunity to hand-build clay sculptures, paint mini-masterpieces and sketch in the Museum galleries. 

A daily snack and all materials are included.

Days/Times: October 7-11, 9am-12pm

Ages: 7-12

Cost: $185/week for Non-Members; $165/week for Members

Young Artist Series: Hand Building and Wheel Throwing Techniques 

Join this camp for basic hand building, throwing on the wheel, and sculpture. Students will learn about the basics of pottery, glazing and the transformation of their pieces from the heat of the kiln.

Cost: $185/week for Non-Members; $165/week for Members

Young Artist Series Camp

Kids ages 11 and up will have fun exploring a variety of art mediums in this fun and interactive camp. Over this five-day camp, participants will have the opportunity to delve into a variety of artistic process and sketch in the Museum galleries.

KIDS U Explore the University

These camps will explore the college experience through interactive tours with many of the colleges and fun, hands-on activities. 

Free before and aftercare available. The cost is $275 for the week and you can register online.

Skiing is Believing Fall Camp

Skiing is Believing

5 days of camp available for 8-14-year-olds
3 days of camp available for 5-7-year-olds
2 days of camp available for children with (dis)abilities*

Activities include:

  • 2 days of mountain biking (8-14-year-olds only)
  • 1 day of community service & education with The Center for Adaptive Riding (ALL children)
  • 1 day of volleyball @ Silver State Volleyball* (ALL children)
  • 1 day of indoor rock climbing @ Mesa Rim (ALL children)

Days/Times: October 7-11, 9:00 am – 3:00 pm

Ages: 5-7, 8-14

Cost: $275 for the entire 5 days**, $80 / day, $190 for 3-day bundle of 5-7-year-olds OR $140 for 2-day bundle for children with special needs.*

Mars Exploration Camp at Sierra Nevada Journeys

Join the Desert Research Institute (DRI) for a three-day, two-night voyage to Mars. This camp is FREE to attend. Grizzly Creek Ranch will be our mission control center as we journey through a series of activities transporting us from Earth to the Red Planet. 

Through hands-on exploration, participants will explore the many factors NASA scientists and engineers have to consider when planning human missions to Mars. For 6th to 8th-grade students. Transportation will be provided to/from Reno. 

Meals and lodging are also included. At Grizzly Creek Ranch in Portola, CA, with Sierra Nevada Journeys. You can fill out the application online. (775) 673-7380.

ACTOUT 2019 Fall Camp from Reno Little Theater

At “The Great Pumpkin Patch Fall Camp,” kids 6 to 12 will get a chance to explore the retelling of this beloved Halloween story. With music from Snoopy the musical and fun ghostly dancing thrown in, it’s sure to be a spooky good time.

Super STEAM Hero Camp from Challenge Island

You and your tribe will channel your extraordinary powers into a universe of challenges inspired by your favorite Super STEAM Hero and SHero characters. This camp promises to be a Super-Duper and unforgettable adventure for every boy and girl. 

Before and aftercare available for an additional fee. 

Days/Times: October 7-11, 9am-3pm

Ages: 5-12

Cost: $230/week

Full Play Camp from KidScape Productions

Full play “The Culmination of Human Achievement” camp. This camp ends with a free community performance on October 11. 

Kids will work on this story at Damonte Ranch High School. Limited to 35 actors and 15 backstage. Pre-registration required.

World Championship Outhouse Races in Virginia City | October 5

The 30th Annual World Championship Outhouse Races. This free event dates back when outdoor plumbing was outlawed in Virginia City, angry residents took to the streets with their outhouses in protest, and a tradition was born. 

This hilarious event pits teams of costumed outhouse racers against each other in an all-out potty race pushing their home-made outhouses down C Street toward the toilet paper finish line to claim the latrine title. The Parade of Outhouses begins Saturday at noon with races immediately following.

Fall Fish Festival at Lake Tahoe | October 5-6

Saturday and Sunday, October 5 & 6, 2019, 10:00 AM – 4:00 PM. Celebrate the annual fall migration of the Kokanee salmon during the Fall Fish Fest at the Taylor Creek Visitor Center, Lake Tahoe.

Festival events include children’s activities such as face painting, a food vendor, educational booths and a streamside information station. Kokanee Trail Runs, sponsored by the Tahoe Mountain Milers, will take place on Sunday. For information on the trail runs, visit

Eldorado Great Italian Festival | October 12-13

For the 38th year, the Eldorado is bringing the sights, sounds and flavors of Italy to the heart of Reno during the Eldorado Great Italian Festival. This is a fun family event.
