Vegan Donuts – Not Served Daily
From what I have heard, the cost to make vegan donuts is more than standard donuts. For that reason, Holey Schmidt’s only serves vegan donuts on set days.
Prior to the directive of non-essential businesses closing, Holey Schmidt Donuts offered vegan donuts on Tuesdays.
You’ll want to inquire on their website or Instagram page for more details.
If donuts made fresh daily haven’t caught your attention, maybe this will. Holey Schmidt Donut Shop partnered with Old World Coffee Lab. Old World Coffee is also local to Reno and roasts fresh coffee each week. If you can’t tell, we love keeping it local!
Due to the current state of our society, hours have varied at Holey Schmidt Donut Shop.
Currently, Holey Schmidt’s hours are Wednesday through Sunday 7 am – Noon.
Normal business hours are daily from 6 am – 8 pm. Let’s hope that these hours can resume soon!
Location & Amenities
Holey Schmidt Donut Shop is located right next door to the Discovery Museum at 490 S. Center Street in Reno.
I mean you can’t ask for a better (and more convenient) location. After taking your kids to the museum, you can treat yourself to a yummy donut. Even better if your kids fall asleep on the way home and you may be able to enjoy the yummy goodness in peace.
The times that I have dined in this specialty donut shop it was relatively quiet. Only a couple times have all tables been full during a visit. With that being said there aren’t a lot of tables – six plus a few bar stool options. It seems that most people order their donuts and take them to go.
Is it Kid-Friendly?
The big question! Is Holey Schmidt Donuts kid-friendly? Yes!
The donut shop is fairly indestructible. The tables and chairs are made from metal, so there isn’t a lot your children can break or damage.
Tucked in the back corner, near the restrooms, is a small cart that holds magnets and chalk. There is a magnet and chalkboard for children to play with. Great for kids that won’t sit still – especially on a sugar high!
Although Holey Schmidt isn’t the coziest atmosphere, the simple decor brings stress levels down since kids can’t disrupt an ambiance.
As a fellow parent, I know it can be worrisome going into a business with children. Every time I have visited Holey Schmidt Donuts the staff seemed patient and understanding with kids.
That One Time…
I do want to share one experience in particular. While the COVID19 directives were in place, Holey Schmidt Donuts offered a presale allowing customers to place an order online to pick up the next day.
My family and I placed an order for ourselves and our neighbors and arranged a time to pick up. Unfortunately, we did not check the box until we returned home. We were shorted three donuts. You can imagine my dismay.
I called the shop and I cannot say enough about how the situation was handled. The gentleman (who was obviously very busy) took the time to collect my information and make note of the error.
He informed me that my next visit would make up for the mistake, including both donuts and coffee. Their recognition of the mistake and wanting to make it right truly went above and beyond.
If You Give a Dog a Donut…
Holey Schmidt Donuts is teaming up with more local businesses.
Recently, they hosted a virtual event with Playful Potter located in Sparks. Holey Schmidt Donut Shop supplied mini donuts to complement the painting craft provided by Playful Potter.
I have a feeling we will see more events like this in the future… my fingers are crossed!
